Demand to ply CNG buses on University Road

Karachi: Commuters, including thousands of students, using the Main University Road, one of the busiest arteries of the city, face immense problems due to lack of proper public transport routes, and have demanded to introduce new CNG bus routes to facilitate them. There are just a couple of minibuses linking the road from Safoora Goth to downtown area of MA Jinnah Road, Saddar and Tower. People have to change two or more buses to reach their destination. There is no a single bus route to link the Safoora Goth, Karachi University or Gulistan-e-Jauhar directly to the Shahrah-e-Faisal. The students of the Karachi University, NED University of Science and Technology, Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science and Technology (FUUAST) and many private educational institutes have to bear immense problems besides incurring more bus fares due to lack of proper minibus routes to link this area to different localities of the city. Commuters complaint that the powerful private transporters do not want seeing more public transport buses and minibuses on this road, as they want commuters dependent on a few existing routes; that is why people are seen traveling sitting on rooftops of jam-packed minibuses and coaches. ppi.
