Karachi:January 29:A day-long international conference on the life and political services of late Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto will be held in April 2012.

The decision to this effect was taken at the second meeting of the Board of Governor of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto chair under the University of Sindh here on Saturday.

The meeting was jointly chaired by Speaker Sindh Assembly Nisar Ahmed Khuhro and Vice-Chancellor Sindh University Prof Nazir A Mughal, while Sindh Senior Minister for Education Pir Mazhar-ul-Haq also attended the session being pro-chancellor of the Sindh University.

Later talking to the media, the Sindh education minister said that M Phil and PhD-level research would be conducted under the Shaheed Benazir Bhutto chair on the untiring struggle and political philosophy of martyred two-time prime minister of the country. The education minister said that he had proposed to the provincial culture department that approved Rs20 million should be expeditiously disbursed for the benefit of Benazir Bhutto chair.

Also on the occasion, Pir Mazhar also castigated the ongoing protest movement by the faculty members of the University of Sindh, which according to him, was being carried out on the basis of non-issues and flimsy grounds and causing serious damage to the cause of higher education and research at the Sindh University.

He said that the present government had taken several steps for resolving the issues and problems of the teachers but no hindrance would be tolerated against the smooth conduct of classes and academic activities for the students at the public sector universities.

He said that the heads of educational institutions would not be removed from their posts on the mere flimsy ground that their removal had been demanded by their respective teachers’ associations.The news.
