KARACHI:December 22: Employees Welfare Association of University of Karachi Wednesday decided that they boycott of official duties would continue till the university administration provide them safety from growing hooliganism of violent elements of student outfits. The EAW on Tuesday had decided at all employees of the varsity would not discharge their official duties till indefinite period against the attack of a group of students on Registration Unit office, beating its staff and ransacking it. They said a gang belonging to a student outfit had barged into the Registration Unit office and demanded of the employees to met their illegal demands and on their refusal beat them up and broke office furniture. On Wednesday another meeting of EWA was summoned and it decided that as the university administration has failed in providing safety and security to its staff, all employees of the varsity have been compelled not to discharge their official duties till indefinite period. It was noted that entry of students is banned in administrative offices including the Registration Unit, but the mighty student bodies freely violate this ban and their activists not only enter these offices but also force employees to do their illegal work. However, a delegation of EWA met with the pro-vice chancellor and briefed him on the details of ugly incident. They told him that the varsity staff would not return to their duties when they are fully assured of their security and safety. PPI.
