Karachi: The Sindh High Court on Monday allowed a student to attend classes of civil engineering at the Mehran University of Engineering and Technology (MUET).
A division bench headed by Justice Maqbool Baqar was seized with the hearing of a petition filed by Shahid Niaz Sheikh, a fourth year student of MUET, who sought permission to attend classes of the 2012 session.
The petitioner, represented by Advocate Bisharat Ali Memon, impleaded the varsity's vice chancellor, the registrar, the chairman of the civil engineering department, the dean of architect & civil engineering, the student affairs director and others as respondents.
The counsel submitted that the university adminis-tration had earlier stopped his client from taking third year examination due to shortage of his attendance and he subsequently filed a petition in the SHC that provisionally allowed him on Nov 28, 2011.
He submitted that the university administration previously suspended admission of the petitioner for one week from October 14, 2011.
Later, it was restored on October 19, 2011, when his guardian talked to the administration.
The counsel stated that the student could not attend the classes due to worst flooding in his home district, Shaheed Benazirabad.
The petitioner prayed to the court to direct the university administration to allow him to attend classes. ppi.
