Dadu: Students of primary, secondary and higher secondary schools of Dadu and Jamshoro districts visited an education festival organised by the Indus Resource Centre (IRC) at Government Permanand Hardas Boys High School here.
Many schools and civil society organisations set up science projects, stalls of handicraft and items related to education. Display centres were established to show the culture of Sindh. Speech, quiz, art and essay competitions were held among students of 20 schools.
A student of sixth class of the Government Middle High Schools of Phakka, Ghulam Fiza Jatoi, said this was the first event where major higher secondary schools of the two districts exhibited science projects. Different experiments were demonstrated on the occasion.
A visitor, Asima Rustamani, student of 5th class of Wahi Pandhi Primary Girls School, said that she had a desire to see the education festival, adding that she came with her parents and other students and enjoyed a lot from a musical tableau.
A modern village model was made by a group of 14 students of Permanand Hardas Boys High School. Group leader Gul Zaib Memon said that this model was prepared keeping in view the modern trends in construction.
He said that underground drainages, police check post, water link canal, over-head bridge, roads and streets were shown in the model while in its surroundings, there was an agriculture zone.
Students of the Government Phulji High School presented a science project.
Group leader of Phulji High School team Amir Hussain Abbasi said that this project was made with the help of teachers and the students of 9th class.
He said that growth of plants from seed to fruit was shown in this project that created awareness for protection and growth of plants and trees.
A civil society organisation working on education and disaster management in Kachho presented a puppet show in which they demonstrated how to protect people during floods.
Students of Girls High School of Johi and Khanpur High School also displayed projects on disaster and flood in Kachho and Katcho.
Another visitor, Junaid Ahmed Shahani, said these activities would bring confidence and awareness among students of far flung areas.
Sindh Education Minister Pir Mazharul Haq inaugurated the festival. Secretary education Mohammad Siddique Memon also visited the festival.
Executive director of the IRC Sadiqa Salahuddin distributed prizes and awards among winners of quiz and other competitions.
