Karachi:Hussain Ebrahim Jamal (HEJ) Research Institute of Chemistry, University of Karachi (KU), has been declared as the best science institution in the Islamic world. It has won the prestigious Islamic Development Bank (IDB) prize for science and technology that include a cash reward worth 100,000 US dollars, besides a trophy and a certificate. The prize will be presented to the director of the institute in a special ceremony that will be held on the occasion of the 35th IDB board of governors meeting in Baku, Azerbaijan on June 23 and 24, this year.
“The selection committee of the IDP prize for science and technology has decided to award the HEJ Research Institute of Chemistry, Karachi University (KU) in the category of institutions having achieved outstanding contribution to a given scientific discipline. I hope that this prize will encourage more science and technology institutions in Pakistan to strive for achieving excellence,” said IDB President, Dr Ahmad Mohamed Ali, in an official letter issued to the Director International Centre for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS), KU.
Vice-Chancellor, KU, Prof Pirzada Qasim and former HEC Chief, Prof Dr Atta-ur-Rahman have congratulated the director and staff of the ICCBS for this great achievement, and said that it was an honour not only for the university but also for the whole nation.
