Hyderabad: The executive council of the University of Sindh has decided to introduce 18 credit hours course for PhD degree programme as per criteria approved by the Higher Education Commission in Faculty of Natural Sciences and Faculty of Social Sciences in its first phase from January 2011.
It was decided at a meeting of the council, chaired by Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Nazir A.Mugahl on Wednesday.
The meeting discussed ways and means for introduction of Ph.D course in different disciplines under 18 credit hours in the light of criteria of the HEC.
It advised faculties of arts, pharmacy and commerce and business administration to develop proposal for discussion and approval of executive council meeting.
The VC floated an idea for uniformity in university's letterhead by mentioning the University's name on top of it and name of any faculty or department in second line. The meeting appreciated and approved the idea.
The meeting gave serious thought to problems of university teachers which include up-gradation of hard cases of faculty members, raise in telephone bills in light of decisions taken by other universities and allotment of residential plots in the third phase.
The VC said that the demands made by the Sindh University Teachers Union are reasonable and, while approving it in principle, the meeting decided that the same would be discussed in Vice Chancellors Committee and would be placed before syndicate meeting of the University for approval.
The VC briefed the participants about his meetings with the VCs of Mehran University of Engineering and Technology and Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences. He said that old land dispute between three universities were resolved amicably.
